EMMA EVELYN
ROEDER
Since this series of pieces is still being created, the concepts behind the work will continue to evolve. Text on this page will change as the artwork nears completion. At this stage it is easiest for me to explore these concepts through a poetry format, which allows me to more freely associate words and concepts with my visual art.
Subsumed
The inveitable descent
As a woman
As feminine
Avian screams through constricted throats
Sheaves of torn paper
Litter the floor
We plummet
We fling ourselves towards the inevitable
Awareness streaming
When one’s identity is stitched from
Expectations, ideals,
Distorted reality
Nothing can hold us together
Not really
Slick stretching tendons
Vital agressions
Lungs sacked of air
Distorted
Dissolved
Distrusting
Disgusted
Our tenuous skins shear off, flay bare
Sinews will hold
Struggling to reverse the inevitable flow
Of some uncontrollable gravity.
Desiccated Self
